What is it they say about Idle Hands?

I'm horrible about updating and its only my third post, what's that about. The thing is I draw all the time and on every scrap of paper, envelope, phonebook anything I'm near really but this causes me to have a crap load of drawings. People always ask " How do you know what do draw?" truthfully I don't, I have no freaking clue why I draw what I do when I doodle. It's like there's no connection between my hand and my brain. But when I'm drawing just to draw and I'm in my relaxing mode I get into my comfort zone which always leads me to X-Men. For some reason Gambit, Cyclops, Wolverine and the gang are imprinted into the muscle memory of my hand. If you didn't know me you'd ask " So you like the X-Men?" but that would be an understatement.

That's all I'm going to say about that, I wont bring up my 20 year comic collection or figures or giant talking Pez dispenser or the fact that I went to school specifically for comics or that I teach Comics, Concepts & Design techniques and that there is way too many random facts rattling around in my noggin. I just wont bring any of that up. Those of you who are reading and know me are now listing off plenty of other things I'm sure. But I like to keep my adorkableness undercover otherwise it might mix with sheer awesomeness and the world is just not ready for all of that. I like to be able to walk down the street and not have anyone know my capabilities, I'm very Clark Kent in that way.

Anyway back to the absentminded drawings.
A quick Gambit doodle while relaxing on the most comfortable sofa in the world. (4min or so)

One of my students got a new sketchbook and asked me to draw in it, so I did. Funny how it's X-Men related. Now I have loads of random X-Men drawings but these are my most recent and well were conveniently sitting next to me thus giving birth to this rant.

Okay, so I've had these drawings meandering around my work space for over a year now. My guess is I did these at work before my class sometime after The Dark Knight. Which to this day I still have mixed emotions that seemed to surface the other day while out with some friends who share the same ideas over nachos and Starbucks. As much as I enjoy the fact that comic based movies are in the fore front of entertainment, does Batman really need to have a lisp? I mean seriously how is a grown man dressed in rubber sounding like Daffy Duck intimidating? I blame mask, the mouth/ jaw area was too small forcing Christian Bale's tongue to swell or cheeks to push it. Or maybe I just have an issue with the mask design. But I digress and the film as a whole is a great comic action adventure, like I said before "mixed emotions" so don't get the wrong idea.

Anyways, hours after the nacho laced Batman conversation while sifting through some scattered papers and drawings I needed to file or throw away I came across these drawings. Just a few simple doodles that have now taken me over a year to scan but as you get to know me, you'll notice this happens a lot. Most of my doodles don't get such special treatment but hey, I'm willing to change.

Just for fun b/c Bizaro was with the others.

late or just extra early?

It is currently 3:40 am and I have finally decided that it is time to get things started. I need to get to it, whatever "it" may be. There are a lot of things to consider these days and as I sit here listening to Gnarls Barkley's song "Whatever" everything starts to become clear. I've got drawings to be drawn, paintings to paint, sculptures to sculpt a portfolio to re-vamp and oh so much more. So in remembering that I even had a Blogger account I figured now would be a good time to get things rollin'.

Some might think of this as a useless post and to that I say "Whatever" this was my unavoidable first post, it'll get better.

Swing Batta, Batta, Swing!
