"There you are!" " Do I know you?" "No, but there you are!"

Happy after the holidays...days. Hope everyone had a good holiday or two and stayed warm over these last few weeks. It's been FRIGID cold! Okay, lots of things on today's menu: a new year, new projects, finished projects and like Patti LaBelle put it best a "New Attitude!"

First off I'd like to send warm wishes and special thanks to everyone who made the Stockton Thunder Auction a successes. To all my peeps from near and far you guys are fantastic, thanks so much for supporting this Doodle. To the Thunder staff and players, thank you for this opportunity it's always a pleasure to work with you. And to all of you who came out and participated in this event and won your bids on the drawings you wanted. How crazy was all of that that. I do have to say its the best complement to see people jumping and doing little dances of joy over winning a bid. It's crazy to watch and makes the hours spent drawing and hand cramps well worth it.
Thank You!

By the way, I have now uploaded pictures in the portfolio link of the Thunder Drawings in process. There will be another gallery added from the signing as well, makes me laugh thinking about it but that's a story for another day.

The holidays slowed my posting down a little with all the family-ness and work related googly-muck. But I did manage to meet my deadlines, help get a HOD-sters portfolio packages put together and ready for college submissions. During all this with my brain already in overdrive I started spinning new creative ideas, well for everything. I know right! Told you there was a lot on today's menu. mmm now I want a sandwich... okay moving on.

There's a lot going on this year in the land of Doodle and I will be keeping everyone as up to date. Vague you say, I know but peeked your interest didn't it.

Goal 1, upload more doodles! I have a new series of sketches and such that have been piling up in my work desk as well as sketch books. So I leave you with a little preview. Bear with me please. ( RAAAaarrr... not that kind of bear! )

Poor guy, stay tuned for his misadventures.

Some quick links!

Hey all!

So here are some links that The Stockton Thunder Hockey Team has posted to promote the Auction for Dec.11Th game. I'm super happy with the my art for this event and crazy excited to see peoples reactions. ( If the reactions are anything like the players reactions it's going to be a fun night!)

Doesn't matter if it's a Fuzzy Navel or a Blue Hawaiian, this ones for you!

I want to give a special thanks to everyone who swung by the Stockton Thunder game on Nov. 20Th... THANKS! It was great to see friends, family and having some of my current and former students sporting their H.O.D. shirts. It puts a Cheshire smile on this Doodles face. We had a Blast! Drew all over a table, made some new friends raffled off a H.O.D. original and had an over all rockin' good time.

As of now (like for real, I'm taking time to post this then it's back to work) I'm working on finishing and pushing through a deadline between my day job, freelance work and a very thankful holiday for The Thunder's silent auction ( I'm drawing characters of each of the Thunder players) coming up on December 11Th. I'll be posting pictures of the drawings soon. The players have been a fun bunch to work with and have total influence over their drawings. If you want to be a Iron Man inspired hockey player... done. If you want to look like a total Bad Ass... Double Done! Even if they say, and I quote, " Eh, do whatever it's all cool ... No prob and no worry, I got this! By the end of this I'll be drawing hockey players with my eyes closed.

But it's fun and for a good cause. House Of Doodle will be using the proceeds from this event to give back to the kids in the community who may not have as much exposure to art as they would like due to life's ups and downs.

So in my best Bartles&Jaymes commercial voice. " Thank you, for your support"

It's Been A Long Time, But It's Worth It

Yowzah! I've missed you and promised an update, so here goes. It's been crazy fast times and this year is on hyper-speed! Drawing, my day job, my night job, teaching classes, helping kids get into college, awesome people getting married, good friends having babies and on and on. It's big mess! A very good mess.

So what the heck is up with House of Doodle? Two words: SO MUCH. Thrown in with all the craziness are wonderful new projects, new clients, upcoming events and a book, too! In the future I promise to update sooner, faster, better with pictures to boot! This is all such a trip and makes me so happy.

Tonight, I am being recognized by the Stockton Thunder Hockey Team for my work in the community. It's an awesome honor and I am excited to have a table at the event to showcase my portfolio, talk about the importance of art and also to show some hometown pride. As a super-bonus, my students will be on-site to show their love for me. AWW! I love them so much I made them these shirts. Cool, right?!

Told you there was a lot going on. More to come...

What is it they say about Idle Hands?

I'm horrible about updating and its only my third post, what's that about. The thing is I draw all the time and on every scrap of paper, envelope, phonebook anything I'm near really but this causes me to have a crap load of drawings. People always ask " How do you know what do draw?" truthfully I don't, I have no freaking clue why I draw what I do when I doodle. It's like there's no connection between my hand and my brain. But when I'm drawing just to draw and I'm in my relaxing mode I get into my comfort zone which always leads me to X-Men. For some reason Gambit, Cyclops, Wolverine and the gang are imprinted into the muscle memory of my hand. If you didn't know me you'd ask " So you like the X-Men?" but that would be an understatement.

That's all I'm going to say about that, I wont bring up my 20 year comic collection or figures or giant talking Pez dispenser or the fact that I went to school specifically for comics or that I teach Comics, Concepts & Design techniques and that there is way too many random facts rattling around in my noggin. I just wont bring any of that up. Those of you who are reading and know me are now listing off plenty of other things I'm sure. But I like to keep my adorkableness undercover otherwise it might mix with sheer awesomeness and the world is just not ready for all of that. I like to be able to walk down the street and not have anyone know my capabilities, I'm very Clark Kent in that way.

Anyway back to the absentminded drawings.
A quick Gambit doodle while relaxing on the most comfortable sofa in the world. (4min or so)

One of my students got a new sketchbook and asked me to draw in it, so I did. Funny how it's X-Men related. Now I have loads of random X-Men drawings but these are my most recent and well were conveniently sitting next to me thus giving birth to this rant.

Okay, so I've had these drawings meandering around my work space for over a year now. My guess is I did these at work before my class sometime after The Dark Knight. Which to this day I still have mixed emotions that seemed to surface the other day while out with some friends who share the same ideas over nachos and Starbucks. As much as I enjoy the fact that comic based movies are in the fore front of entertainment, does Batman really need to have a lisp? I mean seriously how is a grown man dressed in rubber sounding like Daffy Duck intimidating? I blame mask, the mouth/ jaw area was too small forcing Christian Bale's tongue to swell or cheeks to push it. Or maybe I just have an issue with the mask design. But I digress and the film as a whole is a great comic action adventure, like I said before "mixed emotions" so don't get the wrong idea.

Anyways, hours after the nacho laced Batman conversation while sifting through some scattered papers and drawings I needed to file or throw away I came across these drawings. Just a few simple doodles that have now taken me over a year to scan but as you get to know me, you'll notice this happens a lot. Most of my doodles don't get such special treatment but hey, I'm willing to change.

Just for fun b/c Bizaro was with the others.

late or just extra early?

It is currently 3:40 am and I have finally decided that it is time to get things started. I need to get to it, whatever "it" may be. There are a lot of things to consider these days and as I sit here listening to Gnarls Barkley's song "Whatever" everything starts to become clear. I've got drawings to be drawn, paintings to paint, sculptures to sculpt a portfolio to re-vamp and oh so much more. So in remembering that I even had a Blogger account I figured now would be a good time to get things rollin'.

Some might think of this as a useless post and to that I say "Whatever" this was my unavoidable first post, it'll get better.

Swing Batta, Batta, Swing!
